Notes from the Director - Debbie Jameson

The Ralls County Library is gearing up for a busy fall of 2026.

The Friends of the Library Group is recruiting new members to join as together with the library will hi be resuming control of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for our young patrons. The state of Missouri took full funding of the program but has since canceled that funding. We are ready to sign up new readers (birth to 5) this month and then will take back our previously enrolled readers in November. There should be no lapse in book delivery.

There are many ways to sign up for this amazing program. Online enrollment will be available as well as a paper copy for mailing. Watch our Facebook page, library website or call the library for more information. We at the library don’t want any Ralls County patron who is birth to age 5 to miss out on this free opportunity to have books delivered monthly to their home. There isn’t a better way to help prepare your little for life than to share reading with them.

Birth to Age 5 Programming

This month we will be exploring colors and shapes, identifing different animals that stay up through the night, working with our minds and hands as we pretend to be construction workers, and visit some classic nursery ryhmes. We began a books and babies program that is targeting our 0-2 years old patrons. This program meets the last Tuesday of every month. Watch facebook for the upcoming dates! Don’t forget to sign your child up for the Dolly Parton Reading Program. This is a great way to build your library at home! Ask the front desk for information and help signing up!

Children/Youth

(Grades Kdg-12) Programming

Join us for story hour each Thursday from 10-11. Kids ages 6-12 will enjoy this month’s ocean theme as we read about sea turtles, whale fall communities, lighthouses, and seashells. We’ll be making sea turtles, wind chimes, lighthouses, and beach slime. Our story hours have been so well attended that we are moving our teens to the boardroom for the month of August. They’ll have the opportunity to visit, play games, and enjoy crafts in a teens only environment.

Teen Games will be held on Saturday, August 8th, from 9-11 and we’ll have a

Mystery Craft for ages six and up on Saturday, August 22nd from 9-11.

Adult Programming: Milinda Wagoner

August is packed with great adult programs at Ralls County Library!

Join our Adult Book Club as we start a new science fiction thriller, Dark Matter, on Monday, August 17 at 6:00 pm.

The Classics & Company book club will be diving into The Iliad this month and discuss it in September—it’s a long epic, so now is the perfect time to start.

Need tech help? Drop in for Ask a Tech Day on Monday, August 3 at 1:00 pm with your devices and questions.

Feeling creative? Don’t miss our Step-by-Step Painting Night led by local artist Anna Leake.

All Ages Are Welcomed! Come one, come all! Family nights are back and we can’t wait to welcome patrons of all ages the second Monday of each month from 6-7 pm. Our August 10th family night will be a tie dye craft night. We’ll have pencil bags and handkerchiefs available to decorate. Bring the whole family and create something beautiful.	What is Amendment 5 and Why Does it Matter? Amendment 5 requires the elimination of county property taxes. The Ralls County Library receives county property taxes that make up 82.5% of their budget. Without this income, services and library collections will be altered. Please consider this fact when voting on Tuesday, August 4. Book Review by Debbie How far would you go to rescue your child?
