Welcome Dawn Snodgrass to the Ralls County Library! She is our Birth to Age 5 Programmer. Along with Ms. Diane, Ms. Dawn will work with our littles during Story Time and provide outreach to daycares, Head Start and the school. She has lived in Ralls County for 23 years so you may see her around the county. We are excited to have Ms. Dawn at the library.

Notes From the Director
It’s almost fall and with fall
comes colorful leaves, back to school, football...(Go, Chiefs!) and a new season of new releases! Come to the library to check a few of these out!
Also happening at the library are a few new programs. Family Nights will be replacing the Thursday night Story Hours. This focus on family will involve everybody in the household and extended household with books, projects, activities and crafts different than the day Story Hour. Collaboration the Ralls County School District’s Parents as Teachers and Early Childhood Nights will occur. Watch for more information soon!
The library will also be offering an after school program for girls in grades 6, 7, 8 from 3:45-5:30 pm on Tuesday afternoons at the library. This program will involve literacy, cooking/snacking, talking, creating and hanging out at the library with friends.We have a lot of fun things planned so call the library for more information and to get a permission note to ride a bus to the Center park drop off or provide your own transportation. This program starts on Tuesday, September 3.

Arrrr Mateys!September is here!Ms. Diane will start Story Hour with a Pirate Alphabet Hunt on the 5th.Themes of pizza dough tossing, exploring feelings, and pancakes will take us through the rest of the month.I am so excited to be here. I look forward to connecting with our littlest library friends and their families. Ms. Diane and I will be here for our first Family Night on September 12 from 6-7 PM to create Leaf Towels, explore books and complete leaf themed activities! Join us!

September is upon us and it's going to be fun! Thursday story hours will include a sand art day, a painting day, a STEM day, and a nature craft day. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, and a couple of those will be outdoor days. We are looking forward to spending Thursday mornings with our school-age patrons. We will have all ages in the back room, with independent options available for our teens and tweens, and help available for younger students. Also, D&D is returning on Saturday September 21st. Our summer break was necessary, but I'm excited to offer D&D for our teens again.
We are adding a new program this September. On Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 we will host an after school club for girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Each week we will have a snack, an activity, an opportunity to check out books, and time to visit with friends. Some activities we have planned are cookie decorating, painting, crocheting, playing games, beading, braiding, and origami. In an effort to accommodate work and school schedules, drop off can be as early as 3:45, and pickup can be any time between 5:30 and 6:00. This is a drop-off program, so permission slips are required. Permission slips are available at the library and at the Mark Twain Junior High office. Parents are welcome to stay at the library, but not required. Public school and homeschool girls are welcome to attend. A bus will drop off public school students at the park to walk over to the library. Bus space is limited, so please sign up as soon as possible to reserve a spot. Please call the library with any questions.

September is an exciting month at the library with a variety of events planned for everyone. Come create Book Spine Poetry with us on the 7th. On the 12th and 26th, we have Family Night events that promise fun activities for all ages. Ms. Diane is hosting a fall craft night that adults can look forward to on the 17th. Additionally, the Lost Bookshop Book Club will hold its final meeting on the 23rd, offering a great opportunity to discuss the book and share insights with fellow readers. We hope to see you at these events!
Graphic Novels
Are graphic novels really reading? There are words on the page that brains are working hard to piece together and figure out. Their brains are working hard to take in the input of information between the pictures and the words on the page and create a story in their minds. It is absolutely reading!
